A couples mountain bike holiday, with non-biking options

REQUEST:
My boyfriend is so keen to do a mt bike trip this summer, I do like mt biking but I'm not really keen to do it all day every day like he is. Does anyone have any trips that will let him go off and blast the trails while I do some less energetic stuff some days, easier rides, other active things and some relaxing and catching the rays, preferably so that we can both have company during the day? Donna – Kent, UK

TRAVEL-QUEST SPECIAL SEARCH REPLY:
Sounds like you'll need to book with an operator that offers guided group mt bike day trips (rather than self-guided or mountain bike tours) so that he's got a group to ride with when you want to opt out. You'll also need to ensure that they offer a decent range of other activities for you. Several of the companies we list do both, but to ensure you get company when you're not biking we'd recommend Ride-Tribe because they offer what they call 'WAGS weeks' which do just what you are asking. There are a range of WAGS weeks to choose from depending on what activities you, the WAG, want to do (if any) and how much mountain biking you might want to include yourself.
We also suggest, but without any guarantee of company for you while he's off riding, Rio Frio Holidays in Andalucia, as they offer a host of other activities such as tennis coaching or jeep safaris and you'd be staying in a hotel with indoor and outdoor pools, a fully-equipped gym and exercise classes on tap. Sierra Cycling, near Malaga, look like a good bet too, they offer a range of mountain biking routes and use three or more guides to enable them to offer rides to all standards, including more relaxed trips. Not only that they are right on the coast, offer accommodation in beach houses with use of pool and sun loungers, and have an interesting list of non-biking activities you could try.
