This section deals with Italian language courses, holidays and vacations. This might be learning Italian in Italy or may be Italian instruction in other parts of world, and offering courses at all levels. Italian courses listed need will be short residential courses, summer schools, or dedicated Italian language holidays, rather than day courses or courses of extended study.
Courses will be multi-day and usually residential, with accommodation provided on-site or arranged nearby, many will use homestay accommodation with Italian-speaking hosts to increase students' exposure to the language. As well as the Italian instruction, courses will typically include holiday and recreational activities such as sports, cultural tours, excursions, and complementary instructional courses in subjects such as cooking, photography or travel.
• Written Italian can be fairly difficult because of its many irregularities and exceptions, although it's a little easier for those that already speak a Romance language like Spanish or French.
• However, spoken Italian should be relatively easy as, once you understand a few basic rules, the words are pronounced as they are written.
• Standard Italian is the main language of Italy and is used all over the country, however it is the first language of very few Italians, most speaking one of the more than 15 regional dialects as their first language.
• These regional dialects are sometimes very similar to the standard language, but in some cases they can be very different!
• Sardinian and Friulan, are two regional dialects which Italian law recognises as official regional languages.
• In the UK, Italian is the fourth most learned second language.
